Winter Hiking - Schwarzachtal - Gerlos Gmünd
Take the romantic forest path along Gerlosbach stream from Gerlos to Gmünd heading towards Hotel Kröller. Here you cross the road and turn right to Hotel Almhof. Passing the single track road at Hotel Almhof, take a gentle stroll onwards to the fork at "Seemeile". A little care is needed when descending to the dam wall (supportive shoes!). After the short tunnel gallery, take the path to the right (beside the main road) to Gasthof Kühle Rast. Here you walk through a narrow belt of forest and then, at last, slowly uphill: pass along the narrow, romantic valley along the Schwarzach River for about one hour until you see a place to stop at almost 1,400 m at a snack-bar. Alternatively you can turn left after the tunnel and walk along the banks of the Gmünd reservoir. Once back in Gmünd you cross the footbridge to the western riding stables, next to which the path rises again to Hotel Kröller.
